Caustics 3D - by Peter Smith, James Rendina and David Pennington - Introduction to Digital Design 2009. Modeled on the behaviour of light in water, this system creates complex curves from the trajectories of agents displaced by swarming obstacles. Here surfaces generated in a Processing applet have been edited and compiled in Rhino and rendered in 3DS Max as a possible architectural form.

Cameron Offices Projection Video - Projection works designed for...

Concept for a 3d-printed light fitting: a 2d multi-agent system is wrapped around a cylindrical surface; agents create trails of material that overlap to form a web-like surface. Geometry generated in Processing, exported via Meshlab and rendered in 3DS Max.

Braddon transport swarm by Kerrin Jefferis, Jeremy Wells and...

Braddon transport swarm by Kerrin Jefferis, Jeremy Wells and Gabe Tester, in Introduction to Digital Design 2009.

This project creates a multi-agent system that sketches car and bicycle interactions in a real urban site - in this case Braddon, in Canberra. Different site conditions and agent parameters influence the behaviours of cars (blue) or bikes (red). These renders show 2d images exported from Processing, composited into a 3d view built in Sketchup.

Bark tower by Christine Murray, Generative Design 2010.
